NEW DELHI: The Indian Defence Minister, Mr Y. B. Chavan, said in the Lok Sabha that Indian Armed Forces were waiting to take revenge from China.

He was winding up a debate on the Budget grant for his Ministry. Mr Chavan also said that India was “watchful” of the growing Pakistan-China association. He thought that China was “sure to make use” of Pakistan for “her own political game”.

Mr Chavan boasted before the Lok Sabha that “preparations we have made quietly in the past three years have created great confidence among the defence service personnel so that it would be a different story if there was a repetition of October 1962 (fighting with China).

The defence debate in the Lok Sabha was utilised by everyone including the Minister for making provocative statements against Pakistan and China and even Indonesia. They spoke of a “long-term strategy” to meet possible threats from China and Pakistan. Some members called for the making of an atom bomb by India. — Agencies

[Meanwhile, as reported by agencies from Cairo], the body of Egyptian ex-King Farouk was interred here in strict secrecy in the early hours of today [March 31].

Three members of his family were the only mourners present, but dozens of secret police kept an eye on the ceremony. Farouk was buried with Muslim rites in the vault of his brother-in-law. The Egyptian authorities refused permission for the body to be placed in the royal vault.
