TAXILA: A colourful event was organised to mark International Day of Persons with Disabilities on Thursday. The event organised at Nasheman College for Special Children Wah Cantt included a tableau show, singing and stalls displaying crafts.

Nine students from Nasheman College have been selected to participate at the Special Olympics in Los Angeles in the United States.

The chief guest at the event Pakistan Ordinance Factory (POF) Chief Lt General Muhammad Ahsan Mahmood said special children have expressed their thoughts and feelings in these colourful tableau performances. “These tableaus show how special children have immense potential and talent,” he said.

He appreciated the work being done at Nasheman College and said the institution holds a special place in the region.

The POF Chief also stressed that the college staff should utilise all available resources with honesty and responsibility and continue to work for the progress of the institution.

He announced that he would be donating Rs 0.5million to the college and would ensure that the POF continues to provide funding to the college.

POF Welfare Trust Managing Director Retired Brigadier Taqdees Ahmed said that Nasheman College has been striving hard to serve humanity. The staff at the college deserves appreciation for its efforts in rehabilitating special children.

Earlier, Nasheman College Principal Farhana Tanveer in her welcome remarks said the reason for celebrating International Day of People with Disability was to make people realise that special children are an important part of our society and we must give them opportunities to become productive members.

Ms Tanveer told the audience 17 special children from the college secured A+ grades in intermediate exams conducted by the Punjab Technical Board for Special Education.
