ISLAMABAD: A team of SNGPL, FIA and police severed an illegal gas connection in Dhoke Awan on Tuesday.

An engineer of Sui Northern Gas Pipeline (SNGPL), Mohammad Shahzad, told Dawn that a team spotted an illegal connection providing gas to around 250 houses.

The official said on an average each house consumed gas worth Rs500 in summer and Rs1,500 during winter.

At one stage, the residents of area put up resistance to the raiding party, but the situation was defused, he added.

A case was also registered with FIA under PPC 462C.

Inspector Afzal Niazi told Dawn the prime accused were the beneficiaries of the gas connection, which caused over Rs10million per month loss to the exchequer.

He said investigations were in progress.
