LAHORE: Chief selector Moin Khan who was to meet Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Shaharyar M. Khan here on Monday to clarify his position regarding his visit to a casino in New Zealand during the World Cup, deferred the meeting for Tuesday amid reports that he is likely to tender his resignation from the post.

Shaharyar had asked Moin to return home from Australia to explain his position after the casino incident in Christchurch ahead of the Pakistan game against the West Indies.

Moin was to reach Lahore this afternoon but in the morning, he contacted the PCB chief to request him to defer the meeting for Tuesday citing health reasons.

A PCB spokesman confirmed that Moin would now be meeting the chairman on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Dawn learnt from reliable sources that Moin is seriously considering stepping down from his post as chief selector in case he fails to convince the chairman of his conduct.

“Moin, by his act of visiting the casino, has violated a general clause of his contract which binds him to not get involved in any such incident which could possibly defame the country. It is likely that the PCB may apply that clause in his case to suspend his contract. But in order to avoid the suspension, Moin might prefer to quit the post,” the sources said.

The sources, however, said neither the PCB nor Moin are likely to make public any drastic measure before the end of the World Cup on March 29.

“The PCB is likely to keep the issue pending to avoid any controversy during the World Cup,” the sources said.

The PCB chairman is also leaving for India this week to meet the newly-elected BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya and, therefore, an immediate decision on Moin is not likely to be made this month.
