GILGIT: Pakistan Air Force (PAF) displayed their skiing supremacy, winning both the Shah Khan Ski Championship and the National Ski Championship as the two events came to a close after 15 action-packed days on Tuesday.

Held in the slopes of the Naltar Valley, Pakistan Army finished second at the events featuring eight other teams.

Some 100 skiers took part in the twin championships with Skiing Associations of Alpine club, Civil Aviation Authority, GB scouts, HEC, Pakistan Navy, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh and Gilgit-Baltistan among the other teams taking part.

Commander FCNA Maj General Asim Munir was the chief guest at the closing ceremony and hoped the “youth of Gilgit-Baltistan will bring more laurels to the country”.

Ski Federation of Pakistan (SFP) spokesman Obaid ur Rahman Abbasi, meanwhile, told Dawn that heavy snow over the last two days led to “Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s flight for the closing ceremony to be cancelled but brought great joy to the skiers”.
