KARACHI: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) on Wednesday suspended former Sindh home minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza from the party’s central executive committee (CEC).

The decision was made following the controversial PPP leader’s recent outburst against party co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari.

Sources told Dawn.com that the party, which is meeting at Bilawal House, decided to suspend Mirza from the CEC due to disciplinary action and for allegations made against Zardari and other PPP members.

The sources also said that an official notification will soon be released over the decision.

Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon on Tuesday denied allegations leveled by Mirza and added that the former home minister had lost trust in the PPP and its leadership.

Mirza had earlier claimed there were ‘serious differences’ between party chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and his father, Asif Ali Zardari.

Mirza said that Bilawal was “extremely unhappy and dissatisfied” with the performance of the Sindh government and its “inept, corrupt and incompetent ministers” whom, he alleged, had deviated from the mission envisaged by the slain party leader Benazir Bhutto.

Firing a broadside at provincial ministers, an angry Mirza had said they were “involved in selling jobs by grabbing hefty amounts even from committed party activists”.

Referring to the allegations, Memon said the same accusations could also be leveled against Mirza.

Memon said if Mirza had any issues with the party he should have raised those concerns through proper party forums.

“Unfortunately, Mirza has violated party policies and political ethics. If Zulfiqar Mirza has lost faith in PPP, then the party also disowns him...The allegations levelled by Mirza are just his personal grudges with the party leaderships,” the home minister had said.
