SWABI: A young man committed suicide after killing the bride and a girl child and injuring three others during a wedding ceremony in Swabi Khas area here late on Saturday night, said police.

They said that the man opened fire after nikah had been solemnised.

Registering an FIR in Swabi city police station, Zareen Dad, resident of Shalkhi village, said that Arshad Khan, one of his relatives, entered his house after the nikah of his two sons had been completed and opened fire with a pistol killing the bride of his son named Saqid.

He said that the shooting also injured two children, eight-year-old Iqra, six-year-old Sana Khan, and a woman.

They were taken to Shahmansoor Hospital Complex, from where they were taken to Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar, as their condition was critical. However, girl child Iqra, died of her wounds.

It was not immediately clear as to what led the man to take his life and that of others, but police said that the attacker was relative of both the deceased woman and her groom.

They said that it seemed that the killer wanted to marry the deceased woman, but he was refused to do so.

Meanwhile, Topi police on Sunday started operation against unregistered auto-rickshaws.

A police official said that they had warned the drivers of the three-wheelers a week back that they should complete their documents, but they failed to do so.

He said that those who didn’t produce relevant documents were fined.
