LAHORE: The Pakistan-China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCJCCI) arranged a meeting of the Jiangsu Chamber of Commerce and Industry with the University of Management and Technology (UMT) here at the UMT main campus on Friday.

Wang Guogui, the supervising president of the Jiangsu chamber, led the Chinese delegation, which attended the meeting. Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad, UMT rector, with his team represented the UMT.

The meeting discussed prospects of developing joint degree programmes in business, information technology and Chinese language. Mr Guongui, Jiangsu Chamber leader, offered Chinese expertise and information technology support to the education institutes in Pakistan.

“The bilateral collaboration in the fields of higher education can produce graduates of international standards in Pakistan, which could not only serve Pakistan, but also play significant role in international business activities,” he said.

Earlier, Dr Murad also invited Chinese entrepreneurs to evolve joint venture for higher education programmes in business administration, Chinese language and software development. He said they would allocate an exclusive area in the UMT for the purpose.

The Jiangsu Chamber delegation will also meet senior officials of the Higher Education Commission, Punjab.

PCJCCI President Shah Faisal Afridi called the visit of the Chinese delegation highly important for bilateral trade and investment relations. He said the visit would lead to some concrete joint projects in construction, steel industry and the higher education. He said follow up meetings would be held to make the proposals working.
