Saudi beheads another Pakistani for drug trafficking

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia on Wednesday beheaded a convicted Pakistani drug trafficker and one of its own citizens who killed a soldier.
Mahmoud Massih Iqbal Massih was executed in Qatif near the Gulf coast for heroin trafficking, the Saudi interior ministry said.
At the same time, Rakan bin Eid bin Bikheet al-Baqmi, a Saudi, was found guilty of chasing and firing on a security patrol, killing soldier Sultan bin Ibrahim bin Ghrahid al-Jaid.
Baqmi was executed in the Mecca region of western Saudi Arabia.
Their cases bring to nine the number of executions this year, according to an AFP tally.
Saudi Arabia carried out the death penalty against 87 people last year, up from 78 in 2013, according to another AFP tally.
The kingdom had the third-highest number of recorded executions in 2013, behind Iran and Iraq, Amnesty International said in a report.
Rape, murder, apostasy, armed robbery and drug trafficking are punishable by death under Saudi Arabia's strict version of Islamic law.

Every time I read news about beheading of a Pakistani in Saudi Arabia for drug smuggling, I cannot help but being saddened at our insensitivity to the issue as a nation. How those persons get through the customs without detection for carrying drugs? There are facilitators who clear the deadly cargo, for some consideration, of course. Will ANF care to take notice, please?

Why Amnesty International, UN or human right activist ignore this news although they are very vocal even if a single dreaded criminal gets capital punishment in any third world country.

Saudi Arabia has a small population as compared to China, India and U.S. Drug addictions can ruin the country in no time. You cannot blame Saudi Arabia.The drug traffickers just have to mend their ways.

Pakistani Embassy in Riyadh must play a constructive role. When Pakistani expats arrive in Saudi, Embassy should organize a seminar or orientation programme to aware the people about the culture and laws of the land. This will surely minimize the punishment of death. I am sure it will work to an appreciable degree to prevent death.

i dont understand why do people do that when they know they will be caught and will be beheaded... and i recall 4y earlier when a retired police officer gave a presentation in PU lahore about how he will be eradicating drugs from the city within one year and just in last 3months iv seen people with syringes at choburgee, maclod road, even mall road footpaths....

It is sad to see so many Pakistanis are beheaded every year in kingdom. And we don't do anything right from the start to stop it .I heard first time about this kind of operation in 1987 I was shocked to see how far people can go to make their living. Punishing as we see has not detered them from doing it. Now kingdom and we as a nation should come up with a plan to to educate them while they are in prison just like the they did it would be terrorist.

No sympathies should be shown to the criminals. Saudis do the right thing for beheading the people who try to smuggle drugs in their country. By the way it is not that they are beheading Pakistanis only. They behead Saudi nationals as well for crime punishable with death without any leniency.
In this news as well it says that a Saudi national was also beheaded for killing a security personnel.
Crime and injustice can be stopped only if strict punishment are given and leniency is shown to the criminals.
Unfortunately some people show more concern for the criminals instead of the victims.

OMG. Why our Saudi brothers not pardon Pakistanis. After all we are Muslims. Beheading is not a solution to the drug problem. The real solution is to legalize such drugs but allow the sale at licensed shops. When Pakistan had that system the drugs were well controlled. Complete ban makes the profit potential enormous and entices smugglers into this nefarious business.

@Pragmatist I'm not a supporter of captial punishment , especially for something like drug trafficking. And if it matters, I'm an Indian and a Hindu by birth.
But I have to ask why do you say "Why our Saudi brothers not pardon Pakistanis" and "After all we are Muslims". Why should any country's law be applied differently based on religion? Do you mean since the suspect happens to be a pakistani and a muslim he should not be punished even if he has committed a crime which as per Saudi laws calls for beheading?
I don't understand why do you bring religion and nationality into the discussion of whether or not captial punishment, especially barbaric beheading is right or not?

Interestingly much of these drugs originates in Afghanistan were a Saudi funded Taliban continues to grow opium to fund jihad....but they hang Pakistani's who carry it to Saudi - Wha kya baat hai !

Punishent seems to be no detterent as seen With so many beheadings for smuggling drugs.
If Pak agencies are serious these can never go beyond the borders. So involvement of some hidden hand is there for profit making.
The Pak rection on drugs caught at Wagah border showed that it was an officially planned operation.

Saudis don't keep condemned prisoners in jail for ages like we do. They swiftly get it done and over with. So, teaching the condemned prisoner is clearly not an option with the Saudis. And why don't we catch the drug carriers at our airports and then do all the teaching ourself.

If there are no beheadings, drug trafficking will increase manifold. Beheadings do serve as a deterence, but there are still some fools who think they can fool the Saudis.
