US designates Mullah Fazlullah as a 'global terrorist'

WASHINGTON: The US State Department on Tuesday designated Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) chief Mullah Fazlullah as a ‘global terrorist’.
According to a State Department press release, Fazlullah has been labeled a ‘Specially Designated Global Terrorist’ under Executive Order (E.O.) 13224, which targets terrorists and those providing support to terrorists or acts of terrorism.
The consequences of these designations include a prohibition against American citizens engaging in transactions with Fazlullah, and the freezing of all property and interests of Fazlullah that are in the United States, or come within the United States or the possession or control of US persons, the statement said.
Fazlullah was elected TTP commander in November 2013, following the death of former leader Hakimullah Mehsud.

Under the leadership of Fazlullah, TTP claimed responsibility for the December 16, 2014 attack on a school in Peshawar that resulted in the deaths of at least 148 people, mostly students.
Prior to becoming TTP leader, Fazlullah claimed he was behind the killing of Pakistani Army Major General Sanaullah Niazi in September 2013, as well as ordering the shooting of schoolgirl and activist Malala Yousafzai in 2012.
The State Department designated TTP as a Foreign Terrorist Organisation and a Specially Designated Global Terrorist on September 1, 2010.
TTP was also listed at the United Nations 1267/1989 Al-Qaida Sanctions Committee on July 29, 2011.

The news is that US Govt has decided to freeze all property and interests of Fazluulah in the United Staes.This news gives birth to lot of questions which need to be answered.When and how he accumulated his assets in the United States and who paid for it.Pakistan over the years has been a beneficiary of Middle Eastern "BAKHSHEESH" and that is the reason we cannot point finger even when everyone knows where the funding for these terrorists comes from. The time has come to tell these FRIENDS to stop meddling into domestic affairs of Pakistan. Fazluulah's assets could be the direct result of "BAKHSHEESH" from Qatar or Saudi Arabia.Pakistan Zindabad.

Keep in mind with the designation, if the he has assests, not that he doe, they can be seized. You can't just seize something in the US, there has to be a law justifying it. Also, if he goes to a country with which the US has an extradition treaty then the US can request he be arrested and sent to the US. So it opens up more possible ways to get this horrible child killer. My gut tells me the ISI is a very effective organization and the drones very accurate.

Pakistani people do have soft corner for terrorists. USA has a long list of terrorists and their organization and this mulla is just a latest addition. However, Pakistan wants to be selective in its labelling of the terrorists. There are good terrorists and then there are bad ones.
Good ones become bad ones (and Indian agents) as soon as they use their weapons in Pakistan.
Anybody who has a gun is going to use it. Using it against India has become increasingly difficult and so all those guns will be used within Pakistan...sooner or later.
Unless Pakistan undertakes a massive operation to collect every piece of ammunition and guns and mortars within its borders, peace will be impossible.
When terrorists are roaming free in Pakistan, their tears seem like crocodile tears. I have a feeling that Indians felt much deeper sense of loss after Peshawar incident than the Pakistanis. I suspect that Pakistanis will end up accusing India for the incident (using convoluted logic that TTP is now a Hindu organization) and raise yet another generation of terrorists.
I hope my suspicions are wrong. But going by what is written in this newspaper, Pakistan is fast turning into a nation of arms wielding militants. And don't again ask 'who provides arms and funding' ad nauseum. When there are people willing to buy, there will be people who want to sell. Be it coconut oil or AK 47 or televisions.

According to Wikipedia Fazlullah lived in Lodi, California, USA, before moving back to Pakistan. Some of his siblings still live there. That maybe why it is being stated that he may have property in USA
