LARKANA: Sindh Senior Minister for Education Nisar Ahmed Khuhro has said that foolproof security at all educational institutions across Sindh is being ensured in the wake of threats from terrorists.

He was speaking at the 23rd Parents Day programme held at the Larkana Cadet College near Moenjodaro on Friday.

Mr Khuhro referred to the Dec 16, 2014 worst-ever school carnage in Peshawar and said those who butchered innocent children could not be Muslims but enemies of Islam and humanity. “We will never bow to terrorists,” he declared, and expressed the confidence that the countrymen and the armed forces would hand these cowards a humiliating defeat.

Praising the high educational standards being maintained by the Larkana Cadet College, the minister it was Pakistan Peoples Party founder chairman Zulfikar Ali Bhutto who had dreamt of the college and his daughter Benazir Bhutto translated the dream into a reality. He noted that the institution was growing fast and emerging as one of the best cadet colleges in the country.

Mr Khuhro said that no nation could survive, leave alone flourish, without having a sound and futuristic system of education for its students. Such a system, he added, must be aimed at creating an enlightened and progressive society. He said ensuring education and higher education for all in society helped check retrogressive trends, he added.

He said the Sindh government was making all-out efforts with determination to improve the standard of education at all government institutions so as to eliminate the difference between the rich and the poor. He said that thanks to a number of projects designed and executed on the directives of Benazir Bhutto, this cadet college would soon occupy the top position in the country.

Assuring the college administration of the government’s continue support, the minister said he would convey to the chief minister its request for a grant of Rs30 million.The champions trophies in the academics and co-curricular activities were awarded to Kamran Shaikh (Z.A. Bhutto House) and Asif Saeed (Jinnah House), respectively. Amir Ali Bozdar was adjudged the ‘Cadet of the year’ while Sadaqat Hussain Soomro, Mohammed Siddique Jatoi, Hasnain Ali Memon, Junaid Ahmed Sohu, Waqas Ahmed Shaikh and Neeraj Kumar were awarded shields for their best performance throughout the year in sports and other fields. Later, Mr Khuhro went round different facilities at the college including the library, an IT lab and archives.

A smartly turned-out contingent of cadets presented guard of honour to the minister. He later distributed awards and shields to the best teachers and cadets of the year.

Larkana Commissioner Dr Saeed Ahmed Mangnejo, Deputy Commissioner Jawed Jagirani and SSP Kamran Nawaz also attended the programme.
