KARACHI, Sept 14: The Bahria University on Sunday conducted the test for admission to first year MBBS and BDS classes (session 2003-2004) in the government-run five medical colleges and one university of the province.

According to director Bahria Institute of Management Science Karachi, Captain Ahmad Zaheer, a total of 9010 male and female candidates appeared for the test held at three centres set up in Karachi, Hyderabad and Larkana.

In Karachi the test started 10.15am and concluded around 11.15am. The provisional merit lists of the candidates will be released on September 27.

COMKAR vice-admiral Irfan Ahmad, vice-chancellor of Liaquat University of Medical and Health Science, Dr Jan Muhammad, additional secretary health Dr Iqbal Daudpota, principal Dow Medical College Dr Tipu Sultan and other senior officials of the Sindh health department visited different centres during the conduct of the examination. Vice-admiral Fayyazur Rehman, rector of the BU, supervised the overall the conduct of the test.

Last year 7,600 candidates appeared for the test, while this year a total of 2,887 appeared at the Karachi centre, PNS Bahadur, another 3,423 at the Hyderabad centre, Public School, Latifabad NO 2, and about 2,700 at the Larakana centre, the Police Training School.

A total of 292 seats, including 236 merit seats, have been allocated for MBBS admission to the Dow Medical College Karachi, and 231 seats, including 176 merit seats, have been allocated for the Sindh Medical College Karachi. In all, there are 923 merit seats for admission to MBBS and BDS classes.

The breakdown of the MBBS seats offered for admission at other institutions of the province is: Liaquat University of Medical and Health Science Hyderabad-280, including 227 merit seats, Chandka Medical College Larkana-124 (83 merit), Peoples Medical College Nawabshah-130 (92 merit) and Sukkur Medical College Sukkur-83 (73 merit).
