Khyber, Orakzai dominate

PESHAWAR: Khyber and Orakzai agencies clinched gold medals on the opening day of the second Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Gold Cup Athletic Championship which began at the Qayyum Sports Complex on Tuesday.

Aurangzaib Khan claimed gold medal for Orakzai Agency in the 1500m race followed by Shah Zaib of Khyber Agency with Atta Rehman of FR Peshawar winning bronze. In the shot put event, national athlete Mehran Afridi belonging to Khyber Agency got gold medal followed by Hikmat Shah of Khyber Agency with Sareer Khan of the same agency clinching bronze.

Earlier, the ceremony started off from recitation of the Holy Quran followed by the march past of all the participating contingents from seven agencies and six FRs including North Waziristan, South Waziristan, Kurram, Orakzai, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, FR Dera Ismail Khan, FR Tank, FR Lakki Marwat, FR Bannu, FR Kohat and FR Peshawar.

Director Sports Fata Faisal Jamil Shah, Fata Olympic Association secretary Shahid Khan Shinwari, Fata Athletics Association president Saiful Islam and Fata Athletics Association secretary Musharaff Khan among others were also present on the occasion.
