Court orders case against Sheikh Rasheed for 'inciting violence'

LAHORE: A district and sessions judge in Nankana Sahib on Monday ordered that a case be registered against Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed for making a speech that can be viewed as one calling to incite violence during a Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf rally held in the city on November 12.

During the speech, Rasheed had warned the government of 'judo karate' in case an attempt was made to restrict PTI's November 30 rally in Islamabad.

Police sources said the case would be registered at Nankana Sahib's City Police Station after consultations between the Station House Officer and District Police Officer (DPO) Nankana over a petition which was filed by a local officer-bearer of the PML-N.

The PTI has been holding countrywide anti-government demonstrations since August 14 in protest of the government’s alleged corruption and rigging in the 2013 general elections.

The opposition party, which was earlier joined by the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) and AML, has been demanding that Nawaz step down as the country’s prime minister, paving way for an ‘independent inquiry’ into electoral rigging and subsequent elections.

The Court admitting a petition in Nankana whereas the march on 30th November is in Islamabad is an example of how Court is out of touch with reality attempting to please those that matter. Sheikh Rasheed did not incite violence but merely stated in the likelihood of Government creating obstacles to prevent people exercising freedom to protest in a democratic dispensation, it may lead to violence. PTI has been in the streets in excess of 100 days and not a single incident of violence has erupted, the Court should take heart from that alone before admitting such a meaningless petition.

For all complete five years we keep wishing of an angel protecting us and challenging the status-quo, when they have come, people are against them. Sheikh Rasheed well knows how to answer these corrupt politicians in their own language. Courts are not independent nor they are seen to be independent. One solution is the only Army who can suspend these corrupt courts and Govt. Go Ahead IK, whole nation stands with you!

Status quo can always be dented with violence. Remember we are not in Western democracies where dialogue is the first choice. In countries like Pakistan where police torture is the fist line of defence for the status quo, violence always takes the precedence for a change.

@Ahmed USA: You got it wrong. The Insaf/Justice preached by Mr. Imran Khan is his Insaf/Justice and not the Insaf/Justice of Pakistan. Mr. Imran Khan does not have to go to seek justice. He administers his own justice and declares his verdict. One of his verdict is Nawaz Sharif is guilty of 2013 election rigging and his verdict is resign within 30 days. If by chance Mr. Imran Khan becomes the ruler of Pakistan, he will be President, Prime Minister, Army General, Prosecutor, Judge and executioner all by himself, no one to question his words or actions.

I was astonished that this experienced politician advised PTI supporters to 'gehrao' and 'maro'. The problem is that the NS government after making mistakes in dealing with PAT seems to be incapable of registering a case against any one associated with IK and a Court had to intervene to remind it of its duties.
