MULTAN: Khanewal police have arrested two brothers for allegedly killing their cousin in the name of honour and disposing of his body into the burning kiln.

Abdul Ghafoor alias Niazi, a resident of Chak 75/15-L, a labourer by profession, had been missing since Sept 26. The family kept searching for him for several days in vain before reporting the matter to police.

The family informed Chub Kalan police that last time Niazi was seen with his cousins Ghulam Shabbir and Zahid Hussain.

Police took both the brothers into custody for investigation who confessed to killing Ghafoor with the help of their third brother Tanveer Ahmed. They told police that they decided to kill their cousin after Shabbir caught him in an objectionable condition with his wife. They said they had brought the deceased to the brick kiln located at Chowk Jamal where they, along the deceased, worked as labourers. They served him tea which had intoxicants. They said that besides the deceased, they had also given the intoxicants to the supervisor (Munshi) of the brick kiln so that he could not interfere in case of any noise.

The suspects revealed that they first killed the deceased with a hammer and then threw his body into the flames of brick kiln to conceal the crime and opened airholes of the kiln for quick disposal. They also threw belongings of the deceased, including his mobile phone, into the kiln fire.

After the murder, they started helping Ghafoor’s family in their search for him.

Investigation Officer Zaffar Aolakh told Dawn that the family could not suspect that those who were helping it in search could be involved in their son’s killing. He said police were conducting raids to arrest the third suspect who had escaped along with his family.
