QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch has refuted rumours that his government has struck a deal on the Reko Diq gold-cum-copper project and said the case was before the International Court of Justice which would decide its fate.

He was talking to reporters after visiting the residence of ANP leader Nawab Abdul Zahir Kasi, who was set free by kidnappers earlier this month.

The chief minister said such rumours were baseless and against ground realities and truth.

“How can I go against the interests of the people of Balochistan. There is no deal on Reko Diq project; the matter is under trial and we should wait for a decision by the International Court of Justice,” he said, adding that no-one could make a deal on the coast and resources of Balochistan.

He condemned the killing of eight labourers in Sakran area of Lasbela district and said: “The law and order situation in Balochistan has deteriorated over the past few days, but we are making efforts to curb militancy and taking action against the elements carrying out criminal activities and creating law and order problems.”

He said he was focusing on improving the situation and providing security and protection to people.

Earlier, the chief minister congratulated Nawab Zahir Kasi on his safe recovery and said: “We both have been in joint political struggle to protect the rights of our people and I am very happy that he has been released.”
