ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Thursday visited the Air headquarters in the federal capital and assured full support of the government to the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) for its future development and upgradation plans.

The premier pledged support at a briefing given to him during his visit and said that the air force was an important component the country's defence. Upon his arrival, an active contingent of the PAF presented him with guard of honour.

The prime minister was given a comprehensive briefing on the operational readiness of the PAF as well as its role in the ongoing Operation Zarb-i-Azb.

The premier was further briefed that the PAF has full capability of precision aerial strikes against hostile targets in the tribal areas.

The prime minister lauded the leading role played by the air force along with the army in Zarb-i-Azb.

The prime minister expressed his satisfaction on the completion of the PAF's upgradation programs and induction of new equipment, terming the measures necessary in order to meet security challenges being faced by Pakistan.

Prime Minister Sharif also had a one on one meeting with Air Chief Marshal Tahir Rafique Butt in his office during which matters pertaining to internal and external security were discussed. Future developmental plans of the PAF seeking the government’s approval were also discussed in the meeting.

A cheque worth Rs34.5 million on behalf of PAF personnel was presented to the prime minister by Air Chief Marshal Butt for flood relief activities managed by the federal government.
