Retired Justice Ramday sends legal notice to Imran Khan

ISLAMABAD: Former Supreme Court judge retired Justice Khalilur Rehman Ramday on Saturday sent a legal notice to Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan for defaming him and accusing him of rigging the May 2013 general elections.

Imran had named former SC Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, former caretaker chief minister Najam Sethi, retired senior SC judge Khalilur Rehman Ramday, and officials of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) as having played a role in the alleged rigging of the 2013 polls.

Ramday has previously dismissed the allegations as baseless, saying he reserves the right to take legal action against the PTI chief.

In the notice sent today, Ramday claims the PTI chief has leveled baseless accusations of being involved in electoral rigging.

The former senior judge has demanded an apology from Imran, warning that he will sue the PTI chief of defamation if he fails to comply within 14 days.

Hilarious! All these corrupt people cannot tolerate criticism whatsoever. And as soon as someone does. Boom! Defamation notice. Like Khursheed Shah asking for Rs. 10 billion. And then got exposed the very next day by Mubashar Lucman on his show. Everyone knows these people are corrupt. And khan is right. 'If I don't call a thief, a thief then what should I call them?'

@Babar I don't know about corrupt or not ( Mubashir) but now his shows , what ever he's doing or saying--- he makes sure he put the facts / videos / paper trail on the screen first. He talks with proof. That's why no one is going after him with these so called defamation suites. Now having said that--- he may have a lot of information more on a lot of people--- which he is not sharing and that's what's not right.

@Babar You and Insaafians should consider that without Mubashar Luqman's and ARY channel's 24/7 plugging the dharna and rallies would have gotten far less exposure than they did. Mubashar Luqman has also been seen live atop the container with his arm proudly draped around IK. So one way or the other Luqman is associated with IK and is his biggest media supporter crossing all journalistic bounds in his partisan support for IK. And IK has not distanced himself either.

Who is corrupt or not among the higher court, but there is a simple scale to measure it. 1. Go to any higher court and ask for justices, You can not even enter in their hug Boundary wall and GATES until you hire a half a million Rupee Advocate. 2. Go to any lower court, you can not move a single inch without payment of BRIBE in advance. 3. Go to any legal department, No one will listen you without ???

The only real journalist and anchor is Mubashir Luqman and because he's been revealing the uguly face of Sharif family and other corrupt politicians and judges, he's disliked by corrupts' supporters. The problem is our nation that is used to of bribes, corrouption, short-cuts, and illegal actions that they cannot see how much is the country suffering. The youngsters have lost any hope for future of our country because we've refused to change.

I think it is time we should assess our Judiciary and make Judges and Justices accountable like any other Pakistani. I also question the allotments of expensive plots to beauracrates , Military officials and Judges for free, what about a teacher, clerk or a peon who worked hard all their life.

@iz IK is accompanied by Shah Mehmood Qureshi, the one who resigned from his post as Foreign Minister because he believed the Raymond Davis situation wasn't handled in the best interest of Pakistan. I know of one Asad Umar who is really educated and has a great vision to improve Pakistan's economy and was a CEO of a huge company in Pakistan and helped that company grow and prosper and I know the likes of young Murad Saeed and many others youngsters like him who are full of energy and want their energies to be sincerely invested for brighter Pakistan. Yeah IK probably chose bad people around him because all one needs is a bunch of Gullu Butts to win elections in today's Pakistan rather than a bunch of people who are educated, have self-esteem and truly want to serve Pakistan.

This is the best news for Imran Khan. Let the judge go to court. Imran will simply ask the judge to open the constituencies so he could prove the rigging and his role in the rigging. Moreover an ex-employee of the election commission made the same statement and accused Justice Ramday of facilitating the rigging. Justice Ramday please go ahead. You will do the same as Choudhury Iftikhar. Justice Iftikhar only demanded an apology and threatened to go to court but he does not have the guts to go to court.

@masood I think people have forgotten the talk show of 12th june, 2012 on Dunya TV. Raiz Malik, Meher Bukhari and Mubashar lucman. After watching this talk show, I wonder how people feel when he is running the talk show KHARA SUCH. Hahaha. My advise to ML is to avoid public places otherwise I fear some day his face will be sprayed black by one of the anchorperson and the episode of 24th September, 2007 with Ahmed Raza Kasuri will be repeated.

Only two days ago, after much bluster and defensiveness, it turned out there was massive and large scale rigging in Khawaja Saad Rafique's NA125. As a side note, I find it very hard to believe that this is not huge news in Pakistan, and suspect corruption silencing the press behind the scenes. Well done to Dawn for picking this up - many others did not. The wheels of producing evidence are turning in the background. Anyone who doubts these people are thieves will realize that, one by one, they will all be exposed. Let's turn over a new leaf in Pakistan. Out with the old, in with the new. How exciting!

@Talha thank you for supporting my argument. Mr. Qureshi is a pir like Qadri whose family has gotten wealthy on alms of the poor; hardly a good choice for a party challenging status quo. Asad is probably Ik's best choice but please take a close look at the dynamics of the urea business and the impact of this oligopoly on poor farmers of Pakistan who are up to their ears in debt. Can Asad transcend his commercial orientation? It is too early to make a call on Murad because he has not really accomplished anything yet. Please also balance these three individuals against the motly crew of sheikh, chaudhries, and qadri IK hangs around with.

Junior is following his senior. Earlier Justice Iftikhar, former Chief Justice of Pakistan has served a similar notice to Imran Khan and now Justice Ramday bursts alike over Imran. Without prejudice to both justices I wonder how and why Imran could accuse none but judges of supreme court to be involved in rigging. People are surprised how many legal notices, Imran will receive in his blame game. People can easily understand his frustration and disappointment after failing to get his finger. Instead of presenting his party's development programs for different sections of Pakistani society he is blaming all other politicians and other people and getting legal notices, people don't know either Imran has any evidence in support of those allegations or not. If Imran claims that he is the leader of Pakistani young people then he will have to prove himself that really he is the one by doing positive politics and he should not play in the hands of those who have their own agenda.

Even though the judge is retired, the Punjab government is still providing all privileges to him as he was still serving. His son's law firm has been blessed with significant business by the Punjab government - all of it from public funds - why? IK is challenging the privileged club and rightly so
