‘VIP culture’

Published September 21, 2014

REFERENCE your editorial ‘VIP culture’ (Sept 17). One can accuse Imran Khan of being megalomaniac or a self-righteous novice with charisma. But there is absolutely no doubt that his persistent stand for a change in our corrupt, incompetent and despotic system has had a lot of impact on the mindset of an average Pakistani.

His daily addresses to his sit-in audience and millions of TV viewers may be repetitive and boring rants, but they certainly are having an effect.

The angry reaction of the passengers of PIA flight PK 370 to a delay in flight departure is a very unusual happening in a country notorious for VIP culture.

Another such incident took place at flood-hit area Chand Bharwana on Tuesday where the flood-affected people refused to wait for the arrival of the Punjab chief minister to distribute supplies to them. They were already desperate and frustrated and did not want to wait for the VVIP’s arrival.
