GUJRANWALA: Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Founder Unity Group boycotted chamber’s annual election, as all candidates of the rival One Unity Group’s corporate class were declared elected on Monday.

Founder Unity Group leaders Ziaullah Irfani and Sheikh Muhammad Aslam alleged that the election board was partial and not neutral and supported the ruling group.

The ruling group entered bogus votes in the list, which was nepotism, they claimed.

The election board reportedly declared all candidates of the corporate class of the One Unity Group elected.

Group leaders Sheikh Muhammad Naseem, Akhlaq Ahmad Butt and the chamber President Sheikh Nouman Salahuddin and other office-bearers felicitated the winners.

ACCIDENT: A car hit and killed a man on Sialkot Road on Monday.

Ijaz was selling fruit on a cart along a road when the car hit him. He died on the spot, while the driver sped away.

The Aroop police have registered a case against the absconding car driver.

ARRESTED: Kotwali police claim to have arrested a thief red-handed on Monday when he was trying to break into shops in Hajipura main bazaar along with an accomplice.

Police identified the suspect as Tanvir.

When a security guard tried to stop him, the suspect opened fire. In the guard’s retaliatory fire, he got injured and the police arrested him while his accomplice managed to escape.

Police suspected Tanvir was a member of a gang of thieves who broke into around 14 shops in one night in the same bazaar a few days ago.

Police registered a case and were investigating.

RELEASE: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leader and former MPA Advocate S.A. Hameed moved the district and sessions court on Monday for the release of party workers from jail.

He stated in his petition that police had arrested more than 253 PTI and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) activists during their ‘long march’ on GT Road in August and sent them to jail.
