LAHORE: Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) President Shafqat Mehmood Chohan has termed Imran Khan’s allegations baseless.

Addressing an LHCBA general house meeting here on Friday, he said a dacoity incident took place at his residence and dacoits took away jewellery, prize bonds and other items.

He said after this incident, Imran had alleged that he (Shafqat) received Rs25 million from a political party. He said Imran levelled baseless allegations without any evidence.

Chohan said the lawyers always struggled for democracy and rule of law. He said the bar had filed a petition against any possible unconstitutional step after approval of the general house.

“But some sections disliked it and started my character assassination,” he added.

Speaking on the occasion, Mian Muhammad Ahmad Chachar, Allah Buksh Gondal Advocate, Rai Bashir Ahmad Advocate and Iftikhar Shahid Advocate said the course adopted by the bar after consultation with general house and All Pakistan Lawyers Representatives Convention for democracy and rule of law was disliked by some powers and they were utilising methods to demoralise lawyers.

They said the lawyers would counter moves against democracy, the constitution and rule of law.

The general house also passed a resolution condemning allegations levelled against Shafqat Mehmood Chohan. The resolution demanded of Imran Khan to seek an apology. The bar also resolved to observe strike on September 1 in support of democracy and the constitution and, against allegations levelled against their president.
