Traffic hazard

Published August 23, 2014

DRIVING on Rashid Minhas Road from Millennium Shopping Mall till the NIPA bridge for regular users of this thoroughfare is nothing short of a nightmare, especially after sunset.

One major problem is the vehicles being driven on the wrong side of the road at Johar Mor, which witnesses a heavy volume of traffic most of the time. This is becoming a serious road-safety concern.

There have been many instances where people have been injured because of vehicles violating the traffic flow. Fistfights and exchange of harsh words and verbal abuse have become a ritual.

Similarly, double and triple parking on the road in front of Aladdin Park and vendors who have also encroached upon it are creating a bottleneck for vehicles passing through, resulting in long traffic jams.

The situation during weekends and public holidays becomes even worse. All of this is happening under the nose of the police and local administration.

City government authorities and elected representatives of the area should act to resolve the matter.

The concern is that if the government is thinking of cutting costs through the merger, we might even lose the functionality levels we currently have.
