DERA GHAZI KHAN: The Ghazi University is facing multiple problems which have been compounded by the vacant post of vice chancellor for quite some time.

Most employees of the institution were denied salaries ahead of Eid, it is learnt.

Established in January 2012, the university has four component institutions -- Ghazi Medical College, Agriculture University Faisalabad campus, Bahauddin Zakariya University DGK campus and the Government Postgraduate College. Dr Mukhtar was recently appointed its vice chancellor but he left sooner than later, jeopardising admissions to various disciplines.

Scores of its employees spent Eid without salaries as the university has failed to make budget.

BZU campus director Mumtaz Kalyani told Dawn that he had prepared budget for the campus in June but the higher authorities did not approve it as the campus was merged in the Ghazi University.

Dr Nadeem Iqbal, the varsity treasurer, said it had no budget since its inception. He said 250 or so employees of Agriculture College and BZU campus could not get their salaries. He said Dr Mukhtar had sent the case of approval of budget to the Higher Education Commission but he quit and nobody pursued the case.

Registrar Dr Najeeb Haider said the university needed full-time vice chancellor to run it. He said he had suggested to the heads of Agriculture College and BZU to draw loan from financial head of the institution to pay salaries to employees before Eid but no one was ready to take risk in the absence of the vice chancellor.
