KARACHI: A passer-by was shot dead and another was wounded when robbers and a security guard of a member of the Sindh Assembly exchanged fire in Gulbahar on Tuesday, according to officials.

As the owner of a printing press drew Rs50,000 from a bank in Samanabad and returned to his office in Hoor Market, Nazimabad-2, two suspects riding a motorcycle, who apparently had been following him, snatched the cash from him, said Gulbahar SHO Arif Razzak.

MQM MPA Rehan Zafar’s guard, who was standing nearby, resorted to firing and during the shootout, two passers-by, Mohammed Abid, 40, and Mohammed Shahid, 60, were wounded. The suspects escaped with the looted money.

The wounded men were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH), where doctors pronounced Abid dead.

Man shot dead in Orangi

A 30-year-old man was shot dead in Orangi-4 on Tuesday evening, Pirabad police said.

They added that Alamgir was gunned down allegedly by a cousin of his over some family dispute inside his home in Sherkhanabad. The police claimed to have arrested the suspect.

The body was shifted to the ASH.

Woman shot dead

A 28-year-old woman was shot dead in Awami Colony on Tuesday, police said.

They added that Farhat Zafar Khan was gunned down by two gunmen near Al-Arabia seminary in Gulshan-i-Bilal, Sector-9, Korangi. She had moved somewhere else recently and had come there to collect her household articles when she was attacked, said the police.

The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities.

Watchman killed in school

A 60-year-old watchman was found slaughtered in a private school in Ferozabad on Tuesday morning, police said.

They added that the body of Fida Hussain Solangi was found in the school in the PECHS, Block-6.

The victim had served the school as a watchman for 20 years, but his services were terminated around seven years back, said Ferozabad SHO Safdar Mashwani. However, the school administration allowed him to continue to live on the school premises and they used to give him some money as sustenance. He lived alone. The police suspected some personal enmity behind the murder.
