RAWALPINDI: Another businessman in the city has received threatening calls from extortionists asking him to pay Rs40 million, police said on Sunday.

Rashid Wasim, a resident of Mohanpura, who owns a factory in the industrial area of Islamabad, complained to the Ganjmandi police that since March 19 his family had received three calls by an alleged member of the outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

He said the calls were received at his own landline and the mobile phone numbers of his brother and father.

The complaint said the caller threatened him that his family members would be kidnapped and killed if he failed to pay the Rs40 million. Mr Wasim claimed that the threatening calls were made from Waziristan.

The police said they had registered a case and started an investigation on Sunday.

It may be noted that two traders in the city had also fallen victims to the extortionists during the last about one week.

The traders, however, reported the incidents to the police only after meeting the demands of the extortionists.
