#MartyredPakHeroes: top Twitter trend honours fallen soldiers

Pakistan on Wednesday observed Youm-i-Shuhada (Martyrs’ Day) to pay homage to the sacrifices rendered by personnel serving in the country's armed forces. The day saw several ceremonies held in parts of the country to venerate the services of the men and women serving in harm’s way.

Through the trending hashtag #MartyredPakHeroes, Twitter users from Pakistan also marked the event, sharing stories and photos of fallen comrades, friends, family members. The trend remained number one in Pakistan well into Wednesday.

Showing support for our soldiers is great. But, why only the pictures of officers who have been martyred? Enlisted jawans have paid a much greater share of the sacrifice. Yet they are a statistic, while the officers are heros. That is the impression one gets from articles like this.

@Malshah That is because Pakistan Army's Officer to soldier death ratio is too high. for almost every 8 soldiers we lose atleast 1 officer, which is a record in its own. Our officers lead from the front my friend. you hardly hear US officers falling. that is because mostly their soldier lot (corporals, sergeants, privates) do the honours of meeting the enemy in the ope and not their officers. you do not win wars sitting within the confines of your Ops Rooms; You need to set example for your men, for only then can you expect them to follow your command
