ISLAMABAD: A former union council (UC) nazim of Hangu was arrested along with an official of the levies, while smuggling narcotics to the capital city on Wednesday.

Police also seized 8kg of charas and a Kalashnikov from the culprits.

Bhara Kahu police intercepted a car at Athal Chowk after spotting a gunman inside the vehicle.

The gunman introduced himself as an official of Hangu levies and the other person as a former UC nazim. When they both failed to provide identity documents, the suspicious police recovered narcotics from inside the car.

During preliminary investigation, the former UC nazim said he was transporting narcotics for the first time to sell them to a peddler from Pind Bhawal, who was also arrested later.

The call records of the ex-UC nazim also revealed the history of his interaction with the peddler.

A case has been registered against the culprits, while further investigation is in progress.
