PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has made arrangements for the internally displaced persons from North Waziristan in Bannu and for those from Khyber agency in Peshawar and Nowshera.

A handout issued by the provincial home and tribal affairs department on Tuesday said the provincial government had made arrangements for the food, shelter, medical aid, drinking water and other relevant facilities for those leaving the tribal region due to fears of military action.

The provincial home secretary was informed about the arrangements at the briefing, where other relevant officials were also present.

According to the handout, a place for setting up a camp on the Indus Highway Link Road near Kasho Pul in Bannu has been identified for IDPs from North Waziristan, while an alternate place for a camp is identified in Baran dam area near Bannu.

The Bannu administration has been asked to identify other suitable places, too.

Arrangements have also been made for storing food at a warehouse in Bannu, while other non-food items are to be stored in Vocational College, Bannu.

The handout said in the last week or so, around 20,000 people had moved out of North Waziristan.

It said neither these people would not be given IDPs status as per the policy of the federal government nor would they be registered as such currently.

According to the handout, the meeting was informed that there was expected shifting of some 8,000 families comprising more than 50,000 people from North Waziristan to parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

And the number may soar up to 300,000.

The handout said six registration points would be set up for IDPs, while the district police officer of Bannu would be responsible for providing security to them.

Merging for what?

Merging for what?

The concern is that if the government is thinking of cutting costs through the merger, we might even lose the functionality levels we currently have.
