KASUR: A gang busted here on Wednesday by the local administration was found involved in slaughtering donkeys and selling their meat as beef in B-Division police precincts.

The raiding team of tehsil municipal administration also recovered hundreds of kilograms of donkey meat and remains from a house being used by the gang for running the abominable business.

According to TMA officials, the raid was conducted on a tip-off by a team led by Assistant Commissioner Shahrukh Khan Niazi on an isolated house near National Bank Chowk.

They said when the raid was conducted the donkey meat was being prepared for supply to various sale points.

The ringleader, George Masih, was arrested from the spot and handed over to police.

According to officials, Masih told the raiding team that only fat was being extracted from dead donkeys, to be used in soap manufacturing.

The AC told the local media the accused could not explain why the meat was chopped like ordinary beef available in the market and why the whole process was being done in a secret way at an isolated place.

“Even if we believe the version of the accused, the use of dead animal’s fat in the soap manufacturing was also illegal,” Niazi said, adding the police were investigating into the matter.

A case (No 42/14) was registered against the accused under section ¾ of the Slaughter Act.
