THE Independent newspaper of Dhaka in its May 8 issue had this to report: “State minister for law, Advocate Quamrul Islam, on Wednesday alleged that Sunday’s mayhem in the Paltan area, carried out by the Hifazat-i-Islam, was funded by the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) of Pakistan.”

It is a favourite pastime of the Awami League government to take pot shots at Pakistan.

For instance, Hasina told her rival Khaleda some time ago: “Go to Pakistan. You will be happy there.”

But there is a limit. It is time Pakistan told Bangladesh that such provocative nonsense is unacceptable.
