ISLAMABAD: As many as 15,729 candidates are vying for 849 seats of National and four provincial assemblies in the upcoming elections, says figures released by Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday.

According to the data released by ECP, 4,671 candidates are contesting for 272 seats of National Assembly and 10,958 candidates are vying for 577 seats of all four provincial assemblies.

A total of 2,367 candidates would contest elections for 148 National Assembly seats of Punjab, 1,087 are in the run for 61 NA seats of Sindh, 517 candidates are vying for 35 NA seats reserved for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 339 candidates are in the run for 12 NA seats of FATA, as many as 284 candidates are contesting for 14 NA seats reserved for Balochistan and 77 candidates are contesting for two NA seats reserved for Islamabad.

As per data, 5,758 are vying for 297 general seats of Punjab, 2,809 candidates are contesting for 130 general seats of Sindh, 1438 are in the run to win a seat out of a total of 99 general seats for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly and 953 are hopeful for getting a seat out of a total of 51 general seats of Balochistan assembly.

Moreover, 2,349 candidates of National Assembly had withdrawn their nomination papers including 51 of Islamabad constituencies,1202 had withdrawn their candidature for NA seats reserved for Punjab, 548 candidates of Sindh NA seats had withdrawn, 344 of KPK,69 of FATA, 135 candidates had also withdrawn from contesting for NA seats reserved for Balochistan.
