ATTOCK, April 21: The former MNA of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Sheikh Aftab Ahmed, also aspirant for NA-57, on Sunday succeeded in bagging ticket for his son Sheikh Suleman Sarwar for PP-15 Attock-1.
This also brought four month-long cold war with PML-N leader Raja Moammad Saddique.
Mr Saddique, who is also former interior minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), also surrendered after the announcement of party ticket to Suleman.
He announced this before the local media here on Sunday in a press conference, which was also attended by the Sh Aftab Ahmed and other party workers and leaders.
“Yes, I have withdrawn my nominations soon after award of ticket to Suleman by following the party discipline,” said Mr Saddique.
Obviously he and his well-wishers inside the party had struggled a lot for the ticket and even appeared before the PML-N committee in this regard.
He said let bygone be bygone and now he would support Sheikh Aftab and his son Suleman in coming election as his prime objective was to earn victory for PML-N in Attock, he said.
In response of such gesture, Sheikh Aftab also thanked Saddique for his goodwill gesture and bowing to party discipline. “Now we are all united and would work collectively for the party’s victory,” he stressed. He claimed that PML-N would form next government after winning majority in the coming election.
Earlier, resolving tussle over tickets issue especially in PP-15 was a Herculean task for PML-N’s leadership.
PP-15 always remained a most important Provincial Assembly constituency of urban area of Attock tehsil.
As Mr Saddique, who had also been ex-deputy speaker AJK's assembly, had joined the race for this seat some four months back by considering himself a potential candidate.
This irked Mr Aftab as he wanted to see his son contesting the elections.
This also annoyed his younger brother Sh Shahid Mehmood as he was also aspirant for the ticket and had parted ways with his elder brother and decided to contest for the seat in independent capacity.
In 2008 election, Mr Sh Aftab grabbed party ticket for his young son for the same constituency, but he lost it to PPP’s candidate Malik Shahan Khan.
But this time, Mr Aftab was hopeful of his son’s success.
