MANSEHRA, June 25: The water level in the Kunhar River has risen to an alarming level as it has started eroding the banks of the river in Kaghan valley. The water level has risen due to melting of snow on the high mountains of Kaghan valley.

“Though situation, despite flood in the river, is normal yet it can prove a little dangerous if water level rises further as happened in the monsoon seasons in past,” said Khursheed Zaman, a resident of the area.

He said that people and traders had suffered a lot in 2010 and 2011 due to floods in Kaghan valley particularly in Balakot and Garihabibullah areas.

The district administration, which usually issues warning to the people living alongside Kunhar, Siren and Indus rives, is yet to issue the warning as the current flow of water is not considered dangerous by it.

The local people, who use to swim in the Kunhar River to beat the scorching heat, have stopped swimming due to flood in the river.

In Hassari area of Garihabibullah, flood has destroyed standing crops and started eroding the area alongside the river.
