PESHAWAR, June 19: Six soldiers were killed and two injured when a military patrol came under attack from militants in an area south of here on Wednesday night.

According to a security official, the soldiers patrolling the area in Sra Kawra, Mattani, were on their way to Speena Thana in the Peshawar Frontier Region when they were ambushed.

The official said five militants were also killed in a clash that took place after the attack.

The Mattani area has recently seen an uptick in militant attacks, causing alarm in Peshawar amid reports that militants have sneaked back into the region that had undergone several clean-up operations in the past.
