SWABI/GHALANAI, June 17: A suspected militant was killed in an encounter with police in Swabi on Monday while two of his accomplices managed to escape, law-enforcers said.

The incident occurred just a day after the killing of the two anti-polio vaccinators in Gadoon Amazai by unidentified attackers. Police said that they had erected blockade on Shewa-Parmuli Road to check vehicles and suspected people. Three suspected men riding a motorcycle arrived at the checkpoint and police signalled them to stop but they sped away, they said.

Policemen chased them but the motorcyclists opened firing on them. Police retaliated and killed one of them while the others escaped on the bike. Police also recovered a pistol and 29 rounds from the deceased.

In Mohmand Agency, security forces arrested four alleged kidnappers and recovered two abducted men from their captivity after a long chase in Haleemzai tehsil on Monday.

Officials said that the kidnappers kidnapped two tribesmen identified as Ibrahim Shah and Samad Shah from the main road in Mian Mandi Bazaar. Soon after the incident, Levies and Khasadar personnel started chasing the kidnappers. The kidnappers were arrested near the boundary between Khewazai and Haleemzai tehsils. — Dawn Report
