ABBOTTABAD, May 31: Students of NIMS Medical College Abbottabad took out a protest rally and staged a sit-in in front of the press club here to demand affiliation of the college with the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council.

They alleged that the college management failed to get it recognised by the PMDC despite being functional for three years. The students ended the protest after Abbottabad assistant commissioner Osama Ahmed and other officials assured them of taking up the issue with the concerned authorities.

It is learnt that the students have also approached the Peshawar High Court to get the college affiliated with the PMDC.

The students said that PMDC officials paid several visits to the college and asked to ensure the required facilities for the institute’s affiliation with the council. However, they said the college management failed to overcome shortcomings.

HOSPITAL AFFAIRS: Hazara division commissioner Khalid Khan Umerzai has directed the administration of the Ayub Medical Complex to improve facilities at the hospital.

He also directed Abbottabad deputy commissioner to prepare a report which will be sent to the provincial government for necessary action in this regard.

During a visit to hospital Mr Umerzai found that 90 per cent consultants did not perform duties at the OPD. He also found that doctors rarely visited wards leaving patients at the mercy of paramedical staff.
