BEIRUT:An Iranian official was killed in Syria overnight by “armed terrorists” while traveling from Damascus towards Lebanon, the Iranian embassy in Beirut said in a statement on Thursday.

According to the statement, engineer Houssam Khosh Navis, an Iranian development official working in Lebanon, was killed by “armed terrorist groups” while he was returning to Beirut from the Syrian capital.

He was in charge of an “Iranian commission for the reconstruction of Lebanon” that was set up after the devastating war in 2006 between Israel and Lebanon's Shiite Hezbollah militia, which is supported by Iran.
