LAHORE, Feb 8: A retired army official, his wife and two children suffered multiple bullet injuries when unidentified armed men opened fire at their car near Siddique Trade Centre on Friday night.

Police called it a ‘target’ attack.

Hospital sources said the condition of Naveed Taj was critical due to multiple bullet wounds on his body.

Police said Maj Taj (retired) with wife Zarin Taj, daughters Maha and Neha and son Ahmed had arrived in Lahore from Islamabad by his car to attend a wedding ceremony at Sukh Nehr.

Onlookers told the police that two motorcyclists intercepted the car and opened indiscriminate fire near Siddique Trade Centre. They said the assailants first targeted the occupants of the car from the driver side and then opened fire at the car from other side.

The injured -- Taj, Zarin, Maha and Ahmad -- were shifted to a hospital. Neha remained unhurt.

The police quoted a passerby as saying that Taj also retaliated when the assailants opened first round of the fire.

The police, however, denied the exchange of fire.

The Model Town Division SP and other senior police officials visited the scene.

Some police officials also called it a street crime wherein the attackers opened fire for resistance by the family. — Staff Reporter
