KARACHI: Dr Mohammad Ali Shah, the former sports minister for Sindh passed away on Monday at a US hospital, DawnNews reported.

He had been hospitalised in the US where he was seeking treatment after being diagnosed with a brain tumor. He was undergoing chemotherapy treatment in a Houston hospital during which he suffered a heart attack and consequently died.

Dr Mohammad Ali Shah was also a orthopaedic surgeon and member of the Pakistan Cricket Board governing board.

He was a member of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and had been elected to the Sindh Assembly in the 2008 general election.

Dr Shah has received three presidential awards namely Pride of Performance in 1997, the “Tamgha-i-Imtiaz” (for outstanding contribution towards sports) in 2003 and the “Sitara-i-Imtiaz” in 2009.

President Asif Ali Zardari and MQM chief Altaf Hussain have offered their condolences to his family.
