LAHORE: A Lahore High Court bench, while adjourning the hearing over President Asif Ali Zardari’s dual offices case to Jan 22, ordered government’s counsel Wasim Sajjad to conclude his arguments over presidential immunity in the next hearing, DawnNews reported on Monday.

A five-member bench comprising of LHC Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial, Justice Nasir Saeed Sheikh, Justice Sheikh Najmul Hassan, Justice Ijazul Ahsan and Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah was hearing a contempt of court petition over the dual offices held by the president.

The lawyers, representing the federal government, requested the court to adjourn the hearing on pretext of the strike observed by the lawyers against the deadly Quetta attacks on Shia Hazara community on Thursday.

The bench responded positively and said the judges were equally disturbed by the inhuman attacks on a community.

Arguments over presidential immunity and the contempt of court are not concluded yet, therefore we can not issue any verdict for now, added the bench.

The court, while accepting the request of government for extension of time, adjourned the hearing to Jan 22 and ordered the government’s counsel to complete under all circumstances, their arguments in the next hearing. The court also ordered Barrister Wasim Sajjad to submit his arguments in written.
