SUKKUR, Jan 13: A Jirga settled a dispute on Sunday over killing of a leader of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) and his brother who had been gunned down outside the sessions court of Jacobabad by their brother-in-law.

According to sources, former Sindh minister Sardar Manzoor Ali Khan Panhwar presided over the Jirga held in the village of Sardar Adam Khan Panhwar in Jacobabad to settle the killing dispute of PTI leader Muhammad Ramzan Lashari and his brother Muhammad Panah Lashari.

It was also attended by Sardar Dhani Bux Lashari, Sardar Khan Lashari, Ali Muhammad Lashari, Ahmed Nawaz Pechuho and leaders of the rival groups, including Sultan Ahmed Channa and victims’ brother Gulab Lashari.

After listening to statements of the two groups, the Jirga chief imposed a fine of Rs1.3 million on the group of Sultan Ahmed Channa that included Rs1.2 million compensation for killing of Muhammad Ramzan Lashari and his brother, and Rs100,000 for ‘karo-karo’.

Meanwhile, the Jirga could not give its verdict on the killing of Rasheeda Lashari, sister of the PTI leader, who had married on her free will with deceased ASI Dur Muhammad Channa.

An accused of Rasheeda’s murder, Saleem Unner, did not attend the Jirga. The Lashari community paid compensation of Rs200,000 to the Channa community for not taking a decision on the fate of Saleem Unner, but they were given a 50 per cent concession.

Now the remaining amount of fine money would be paid by the group of Sultan Ahmed Channa to the group of Gulab Lashari in four instalments within six months.

After announcement of the verdict, the group of Sultan Ahmed Channa paid Rs100,000 on the spot. Later, the two groups hugged each other.

ASI Dur Muhammad Channa had married with Rasheeda Lashari on her free will, but their families developed a row.

In 2007, Ramzan Lashari took his sister Rasheeda with him on the pretext of purchasing a piece of land in the village of his friend namely Saleem Unner. But she was buried alive there after giving poison.

Dur Muhammad Channa lodged an FIR with civil line police station against Muhammad Ramzan Lashari and others for kidnapping of his wife Rasheeda. Saleem Unner was arrested and confessed before police to have killed Rasheeda. On his lead, police recovered the body from the bank of a canal.

The case was in court when on the day of hearing, Dur Muhammad Channa opened fire outside the court and killed Ramzan Lashari and his brother Muhammad Panah Lashari.

Police arrested Dur Muhammad and sent him to prison where he died of some illness in Karachi Jail. In the same case, his younger brother Manthar Ali Channa was in the jail of Jacobabad.
