SUKKUR, Jan 4: A jirga held in Sardar Adam Khan Panhwar village near Jacobabad on Friday settled a dispute between two warring groups of the Khosos and Brohis.

The dispute triggered by theft of buffaloes two years ago led to clashes between the groups, which resulted in the murders of Muhammaduddin Brohi and Fateh Muhammad Khoso.

According to sources close to the jirga, former provincial minister Mir Manzoor Khan Panhwar and Mir Khawand Bux Panhwar co-chaired the jirga proceedings and recorded statements of elders of both sides, including Imamuddin Khoso, Mir Hazar Brohi and Mohammad Usman Brohi.

After hearing both sides, the jirga imposed a cumulative fine of Rs1.2 million on the Brohis for killing Fateh Mohammad Khoso.

It slapped an additional fine of Rs1 million on the group to compensate the Khosos for the expenses the group incurred on account of the probe into the murder.

The jirga also imposed Rs600,000 on the Khosos for killing Muhammaduddin Brohi.

It transpired during the course of proceedings that one Mohammad Bux Khoso, cousin of Imamuddin Khoso, was involved in sparking the dispute between the two groups. Therefore, the jirga fined him Rs1 million and decided to distribute the fine equally between both the groups.

The former foes accepted the verdict and embraced each other as a sign of making peace.

The jirga heads were assisted by Mir Huzoor Bux Khan Zehri, Sardar Khan Mohammad Pandhrani, Mir Faiz Mohammad Pandhrani, Ashfaque Khan Khoso and Sardar Ali Sarki.
