QUETTA, Dec 10: The Balochistan cabinet came out with a strong disapproval on Monday over an inquiry against some provincial ministers by the National Accountability Bureau, terming it interference in affairs of the provincial government.

A meeting of the cabinet, presided over by Chief Minister Aslam Raisani, expressed annoyance over ‘media trial’ of ministers and allegations of corruption levelled by the provincial head of Balochistan NAB.

Sources said senior minister Maulana Abdul Wasey walked out of the meeting, alleging that under a conspiracy a baseless propaganda had been launched against an elected government.

According to the sources, some of the ministers criticised Chief Secretary Babar Yaqoob Fateh Mohammad for telling government officials not to obey “illegal orders” from anybody.

The sources further said the chief secretary told the meeting that he would not sign any document that he found to be in violation of rules and regulations, vowing that he would serve the province till he was transferred.

According to official sources, the cabinet decided to record its protest against what it called the media trial of provincial ministers and allegations of corruption levelled by private TV channels and newspapers against them. Thay termed it a conspiracy against an elected government.

“If any institution has evidence of corruption against provincial ministers, it should file reference in courts instead of levelling allegations against them through media,” the ministers challenged critics.

“The masses have given us mandate and elected us as their representatives and we are only accountable to people.”

The meeting said: “A typical attitude of a specific institution towards the Balochistan government will strengthen separatists.”

The meeting was of the view that no one would be able to control the Balochistan situation if coalition partners of the Balochistan government were pushed against the wall.

The ministers said they were ready to face any impartial inquiry body.

The cabinet was of the opinion that a ban imposed on an ongoing project had increased its expenditure.
