ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira on Tuesday asked the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leadership to tender apology to the nation and the president for ‘stealing’ the public mandate in 1990 elections.

The PML-N leadership should do penance by tendering an apology before the nation and the president, he said.

Speaking during a press conference, the minister said that status of government formed in 1990 as a result of ‘stolen elections’ has yet to be decided.

What has been depicted from the court verdict is just a small chapter of the condemnable propaganda as various other characters and their wrongdoings are yet to be exposed, he added.

Kaira expressed surprise over statement of PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif and others demanding establishment of a commission or investigation by the United Nations. He said that decision to initiate inquiry by the FIA has not been taken by the government but by the Supreme Court itself.

The minister said not the PPP but Air Marshal (retd) Asghar Khan had gone to the court on the issue.

He regretted that the government formed, as a consequence of the rigged elections, instituted cases against Benazir Bhutto and President Asif Ali Zardari.

Today, the doors have been closed for poll rigging and no one can win elections on the basis of false propaganda and agencies’ support, said the information minister.
