ISLAMABAD: Defending champions Young Rising Stars Women Football Club won the 8th National Women Football Championship trophy after edging out WAPDA in a penalty shootout in the final on Tuesday here at Jinnah Stadium Sports Complex.

Despite facing the holders, WAPDA girls showed no signs of big match pressure and put the Young Rising defence at bay, with Mahwish in sublime form.

WAPDA players kept on piling the pressure on Young Rising Stars. However, with the passage of time the defending champions began to play with some confidence and created some chances but remained unable to score.

The first half ended 0-0 in draw and both teams failed to score in extra time resulting in a penalty shoot out which Young Rising Stars won 2-0.

Winner’s trophy along with Rs 3,00,000 was awarded to Young Rising captain by the chief guest, while runners-up trophy and Rs 2,00,000 were given away to WAPDA.

Balochistan United got third position trophy and one hundred and fifty thousand rupees.
