KARACHI: Speaker Sindh Assembly Nisar Ahmed Khuhro on Tuesday said that Sindh People's Local Government Bill-2012 was passed by the Assembly according to the rules in democratic manner.

“If any member had objection to this bill, he/she would have raised his/her voice against it on floor of the House, which is a democratic and a civilized way”, the speaker said during a press conference here at his Sindh Assembly chamber.

He said that the members who made hue and cry, and objected to the bill in un-democratic way actually facilitated passage of the bill un-opposed by members of Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).

Those calling him a traitor, he said, must look into their inside. They have a very bad political history regarding safeguarding the rights of Sindh, he said.

“Many people criticising PPP for this LG system were active part of dictator Pervez Musharraf's Local Government system,” he maintained.

Nisar Ahmed Khuhro questioned the MPAs who demanded for presentation of the Bill in Sindh Assembly, why they did not submit their objections to the Assembly Secretariat so that a unanimous amendment could have brought after discussions and deliberations.

The senior PPP leader said that his party had always been struggling for rights of Sindh and that former prime minister and chairperson PPP Benazir Bhutto staged a sit-in at Sindh-Balochistan border in defence and integrity of the province.

On the issue of allotment of separate seats in the Assembly, he explained that it was Jam Madad Ali who submitted a joint application from the members seeking separate seats. Jam Madad Ali is member of the cabinet and till his resignation from ministership is accepted he can't be allotted separate seat in the House.

He said that we have got passed bill from the House after eight- hour long debate. Those having objections to the Bill should have bring amendments in writing which could had been discussed in the House to the logical end.
