PIA retirees’ plea for hike in pension

IT pains me to write that the PIA retirees who popularised and introduced Pakistan to the world are being ignored harshly.

Despite the promise made by authorities that the retirees’ pension will be increased with the increase in pay of the serving crew, no action has been taken in this regard as yet.

Old employees, especially the older ones of the age of 75 years and above, are sick. They need special diet, including fruits and vegetables.

Considering the services of the retirees in the 1965 and 1971 wars with India and the increased inflation of the present time, we request the chairman/managing director to increase the pension of retirees by 29 per cent.

Salute to first and second generation of PIA employee who made this Airline proud. Before the politicain destroy this national carrier through political induction. Unfortunately , We as nation have not learned to honor our silent heroes.

Well the PIA employees gets life time benefits of free rides and during summer time, half of the planes are filled with employees and retirees vacationing in Europe and America. They have attractive pension plan and benefits. They made the air line bankrupt while their neighboring airlines are thriving and expending. I do not believe PIA employees deserve any benefits.

Mr Laqeeq for your information most American Airlines although they are in financial trouble and have cut down so many facilities for paid passengers still treat their retired employees well. They not only enjoy travel facilites but also get passes which they pass on to freinds and other family members. As regards to trevel facility PIA retirees are most of the time are discriminated over serving empolees and do not provided seats.

It is for the knowledge of the writer that retirees of National Bank a big earning unit in country has stopped the increase in pension for the last three years.How these retirees are suffering in a present high cost of living with minimum amount of pension with no any benefits and facility.

While, I agree with the retiree, but I think he will be more than satisfied to know that people like me[and thousands of others] who retired from similar public sector organizations after 40 years service are NOT rpt NOT getting a penny as pension. He should consider himself atleast better than me and thousands of others like me. Nevertheless I support his request. Rashid Hussain USA
