Shortly after losing the Twenty20 series against Pakistan, Australia's young fast bowler Pat Cummins has warned Ireland about a backlash in the upcoming World T20.

Australia, who have dropped below semi-professional Irish side to 10 in the ICC T20 rankings, lost to a spirited Pakistan in the second T20 in Dubai in the one-over elimination after both teams drew level in regular time.

But Cummins, who bowled the super over in the second T20, says the world will find out whether the Aussies really belong at the bottom rung of the T20 rankings when the World T20 starts in Sri Lanka.

“In terms of rankings for T20s, I don't think we're anywhere near where we should be,” Cummins said on Saturday.

“We are a much better side than that and I think in the World Cup we'll show that. After these three games we've got two trial games over in Sri Lanka before the World Cup. We're all upbeat. It's a really good time for the T20 side to get together and show that we're better than ranked 10th in the world. Last night was a major improvement on game one.”

Pakistan beat Australia by seven wicket in the first T20 after bowling the visitors out for 89.

The final match in the three-match Pakistan-Australia series is on Monday night, before Australia head to Colombo where they'll take on Ireland in their opening World T20 game on September 19.
