TIMERGARA, Sept 7: Health teams have been directed to ensure 100 per cent achievement during the next anti-polio drive in the district.

This was directed by District Coordination Officer Mahmood Aslam Wazir, while speaking at a review meeting of the district polio eradication committee regarding arrangements for polio campaign in Lower Dir district.

EDO health Dr Shaukat Ali, Dr Jehan Zeb, sub-divisional magistrates, DOR, tehsildars and others were present at the meeting.

The meeting was informed that all necessary arrangements had been finalised for the next anti-polio drive.

The EDO health Dr Shaukat informed the participants that more than 260,000 children below the age of five years would be vaccinated.

The District Coordination Officer Aslam Wazir said from president of Pakistan to a lower grade government employee had been made responsible to actively take part in anti-polio drives.

He informed the meeting that in this regard special directives had been passed from the president office at Islamabad while district administration had been made responsible through commissioners asking them to ensure 100 per cent vaccination in the country.

He said Pakistan was included in the list of countries that had not overcome the menace of polio so far.

AWARDS DISTRIBUTION: The University of Malakand on Friday arranged Research Productivity Award (RPA) 2011 certificate distribution ceremony. The chief guest was the Vice-Chancellor Prof Mohammad Rasul Jan, according to a press release.

Dr Rashid Ahmad, chairman, Department of Chemistry, discussed the aims and objectives of the RPA, also explaining the procedure for RPA application.

He argued that every PhD faculty should register with Pakistan Council of Science and Technology (PCST).

He said in 2010 the UoM earned five Research Productivity Award awards all secured by faculty of department of chemistry while in 2011 the number increased to 11 and hopefully in the next year the number would be doubled.

The vice chancellor presented certificates to awardees. He said RPA reflected the practical position of productive scientists in the country and the research capacity of the university.

He said the UoM was well equipped with qualified human resource and good infrastructure.
