LONDON: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain requested the country’s major political parties to first ally themselves with each other to focus on the crises at hand and then focus on engaging in politics, DawnNews reported.

In his press release issued on Tuesday, Hussain added that Pakistan’s prosperity and security should be the top most priority as without it we would be virtually left with nothing, no politics and no property.

Hussain was addressing the members of the Rabita Committee (Co-ordination Committee), the UK organising committee, the women’s wing as well as members of other departments of the MQM’s International Secretariat in London.

He emphasised on the severity of the internal and external threats that he said Pakistan faced. He added that every city in Pakistan had experienced extensive target killings at the hands of militants, resulting in the loss of countless innocent lives. However, no political party had attempted to protest the rampant loss of lives as they have been busy maligning each other.

He added that it was up to the citizens to think about whether they wanted to fight amongst themselves or unite in an alliance to protect the country from any further harm from the militants. He urged the citizens to use their alliance to convince the government, the law enforcement agencies and the country’s judiciary to support the victims, identify the culprits and punish them accordingly.

Furthermore, he said that as he alone could not eliminate the risks and would like to extend invitations to all victimised people from various schools of thought and religious beliefs to come together in order to support him and the MQM in protecting Pakistan.

He added that the MQM would eradicate “the present system of injustice” and replace it with a new and more transparent system of administering justice.

Moreover, he said that the MQM would like a justice system which would provide all members of various faiths, sects and schools of thoughts with equal rights and uniform justice. No one would be a victim of injustice, Hussain said.

He added that the atrocities inflicted on women must end and that men and women should be given equal rights.
